I've never thought of myself as someone who is into lacy things, and yet, when I found this handkerchief in my mother's bureau, I was intrigued. Months later, I looked more closely. It was definitely handmade, and by a very skillful hand. As I began exploring these lace patterns in silver, my fascination grew. A little sleuthing led to a remarkable video from a museum in a small town in northern Switzerland, and the story of Appenzell lace unfolded. What a history!
